| Coiled Tubing Glossary...
Tag: To touch an object downhole with the drill pipe or tubing. Tail Pipe: A section of tubing run below a packer in a tubing string. Tally: To measure and record the length of pipe, casing or tubing that is to be run in a well. Tapered Mill: A particular bit type either TC or Diamond Matrix. Used for enlarging holes in blockages of debris or for dressing fish. Two types exist either concave or convex depending upon external or internal drilling of the obstruction being required. TC (Tungsten Carbide) Matrix: The form a particular type of bit or mill can take. More coarse than diamond bits and therefore for softer materials. Tensile Strength: The greatest longitudinal stress that a metal can bear without tearing apart. A metal's tensile strength is greater than it's yield strength. Thixotropy: the property exhibited by a fluid that is in a liquid state when flowing and in a semisolid, gelled state when at rest. Tight Hole (Tite Hole): A well about which information is restricted and passed only to those authorized for security or competitive reasons. Torque: The shear force produced when the rotation, from the motor, (an axial force) is resisted due to the friction between the fill and the Bit. The greater the torque the greater the shear force. Total Depth (TD): The total depth reached in a well. Transition Point: The Point on the tapered coiled tubing string where tubing segments of different wall thickness are welded together. Treater: Service Supervisor on a stimulation job. Triaxial Stress: The total equivalent stress acting on the CT as a combination of the axial stresses (due to tension or compression), radial stress (due to pressure) and hoop stresses (due to any applied torque). Trip: The event which involves deployment of the coiled tubing string from the reel into the wellbore and the subsequent retrieval of the coiled tubing back onto the reel. Turbulent Flow: The flow of fluid in and erratic, nonlinear motion, caused by high velocity. Two-Stage Cementing: placement of cement slurry around the lower portion of a casing string followed by placement of an upper stage through ports in a stage or port collar.
