NC Thread: Originally a mining thread, tapered with 12 threads per inch with the threads having a conical shape. Similar in appearance to a Regular Thread.

Neat Cement: a cement with no additives other than water.

Neutral Point: The transition zone between the Stable region (no helical buckling possible) and the Unstable region (helical buckling may occur).

Newtonian Flow: the type of flow occurring in a liquid system in which shear rate is directly proportional to the shearing force. Newtonian fluids will always have the same viscosity. Mineral oils, for example, exhibit this type of flow at low shear rates.

Nitrogen Cementing: the use of nitrogen to control increased hydrostatic pressure in annulus by injecting a pre-calculated volume of drilling fluid ahead of the cement slurry with nitrogen.

Nonionic: Electrically neutral

Non-Newtonian Flow: flow occurring a liquid system in which shear rate is not directly proportional to the shearing force. The apparent viscosity of a non-Newtonian fluid becomes less and less as it is pumped faster and faster through a pipe.
