Inhibitor: An additive used to retard undesirable chemical action in a product.

Injector Head: A piece of equipment with one or more motors driving one or more chains equipped with gripping blocks to inject or withdraw coiled tubing from a wellbore. Usually equipped with a stuffing box to allow this to be accomplished with pressure in the wellbore.

Inner String Cementing: also called stab-in cementing, method by which the large-diameter casing string is cemented through drill pipe string into a special sealing sleeve in the casing shoe.

Instantaneous Shut In Pressure: The pressure read on the surface at the moment the pumps are stopped. (ISIP)

Intermediate Casing String: The string of casing set in a well after the surface casing, to prevent the well from caving in and allow for deeper drilling.

Internal Upset: An extra thick inside wall on the end of tubing or drill pipe at the point where it is threaded to compensate for the metal removed in the threading process.

Ionic: Having an electric charge, either positive or negative.
