Elevators: A set of clamps that grip a stand, or column, of casing, tubing, drill pipe or sucker rods, so that the stand can be raised or lowered into the well.

E-Line: Electric line, a small-diameter conductive line used in electric wireline operations.

Elongation: The increase in gage length of a tensile test specimen, expressed as a percent of the original gage length.

Emergency Shut-down Device (ESD): System to shut-down a well or series of wells in the event of an emergency

Extender: an additive put in drilling mud to increase viscosity without adding clay or other thickening material. In cement, it is used to increase the yield of the cement slurry.
